The Publication History of  Goffman’s response Cries

 

Summer 1977: Erving Goffman sends a manuscript, Response Cries, to Language. William Bright, Editor of Language, sends the manuscript for review to Allen D. Grimshaw (reviewer A) and Gail Jefferson(reviewer B). Grimshaw returns two pages of comments, stating “I very much like the paper and believe that it should bepublished”.

August 23. 1977: Jefferson sends a short letter directly to Goffman. On two pages she argues for “Recommendation to publish” and “Recommendation to delete and revise” and adds 11 pages of notes with 51 detailed comments.

August 26, 1977: William Bright sends the reviews to Goffman.

September 22, 1977: Goffman returns the revised manuscript with a letter.
